WATCH: The Season for Giving (In) [Cartoon]

A Christmas carol from President Obama.

Mother Jones illustrator Zina Saunders creates editorial animations riffing on the political news and current events of the week. In this week’s animation, she illustrates a Christmas carol from our president. And since you ask: Yes, that is Saunders singing the part of Obama.—The Editors

Here are the words to the song:

The Republicans are frightful
Though I try to be politeful
They never, never, never give an inch
So I’ll always give up in a clinch.

They show no signs of stopping
That’s why I keep flip flopping
They never, never, never compromise
So I cave and I know that’s no surprise.

When they call me out again
How I hate to go out and fight
I’d rather just give up and give in
See it their way and call it a night

My term is slowly dying
And I fear we will soon be goodbying
But as long as they aim at my chin
I’ll just give in! I’ll just give in! I’ll just give in!

GREAT JOURNALISM, SLOW FUNDRAISING

Our team has been on fire lately—publishing sweeping, one-of-a-kind investigations, ambitious, groundbreaking projects, and even releasing “the holy shit documentary of the year.” And that’s on top of protecting free and fair elections and standing up to bullies and BS when others in the media don’t.

Yet, we just came up pretty short on our first big fundraising campaign since Mother Jones and the Center for Investigative Reporting joined forces.

So, two things:

1) If you value the journalism we do but haven’t pitched in over the last few months, please consider doing so now—we urgently need a lot of help to make up for lost ground.

2) If you’re not ready to donate but you’re interested enough in our work to be reading this, please consider signing up for our free Mother Jones Daily newsletter to get to know us and our reporting better. Maybe once you do, you’ll see it’s something worth supporting.
