RSACi
What with all the content outlets, Net technology, and information systems Microsoft owns and distributes, it naturally wants the ability to rate the content it produces. Thus the Recreational Software Advisory Council on the Internet (RSACi). Founded in 1994 as a sort of “parental advisory” sticker for home software, RSAC took on the Internet as well in 1996, with funding from Microsoft and other industry heavyweights. The RSACi ratings standard, a 0-5 scale for sex, violence, and adult language, is backed by companies Microsoft courts, such as PointCast, Disney, USWeb, and others.

Fact:

Mother Jones was founded as a nonprofit in 1976 because we knew corporations and billionaires wouldn't fund the type of hard-hitting journalism we set out to do.

Today, reader support makes up about two-thirds of our budget, allows us to dig deep on stories that matter, and lets us keep our reporting free for everyone. If you value what you get from Mother Jones, please join us with a tax-deductible donation today so we can keep on doing the type of journalism 2024 demands.
