Founded in 1901, TRW manufactured parts for US fighter planes during both world wars. After merging with the Ramo-Wooldridge Corporation in 1958, TRW began manufacturing unmanned spacecraft for scientific and defense purposes, and has expanded into the automotive, electronics, energy markets. Recently, TRW has been the target of a hostile takeover attempt by defense contractor Northrop Grumman.
