British Parliament is currently on lockdown after a driver mowed down multiple people nearby at Westminster Bridge, before crashing the car and fatally stabbing a police officer while attempting to enter Parliament. At least four people died in the attack, including the alleged assailant, and several others were injured.

The Metropolitan Police is treating the attack as a terrorist incident, until they “know otherwise.”

As news of the attack first unfolded, David Lidington, the House of Commons leader, made a statement revealing an alleged assailant outside Parliament was shot after stabbing an officer.

Prime Minister Theresa May is safe, a spokesman said. She will hold an emergency security meeting later today.

Shots were first reported around 2:30 p.m. local time Wednesday.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer confirmed President Donald Trump has been briefed on the incident.
